Cultural activities
Connecting to Heritage
The Professional Project Administrator (PPA) Program is unique in providing students opportunities to connect with their own Indigenous culture while delivering employment-focused training.
In 2022-2023 we will be working with Indigenous communities and Elders to bring cultural elements into the program for those groups. In 2020-2021 The PPA Program worked with Métis Nation BC to offer the program to members.
2020-2021 – Métis Cultural Connection
In 2020-2021 three classes of Métis students, in conjunction with Métis Nation BC, graduated from the PPA Program. Led by Métis Elder Jo-Ina Young, students had many opportunities to share stories and celebrate Métis culture in a virtual setting. Kits were sent out to participants in advance to have everything they needed to complete the activities.
Some of the cultural actives included:
• Michif language lessons
• Medicine bags
• Fire bags
• Weaving
• Jigging & Fiddling
• Beading
• Bannock making
• Métis history
These activities were a program highlight and gave many students a connection with their heritage they did not have before.
In 2022-2023 we continue this connection with culture in three other Indigenous communities. An Indigenous Elder will work with each group to provide wisdom and guidance to students, faculty, and staff.
